Method
 

Instructions
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook your preferred ground breakfast sausage for 5-7 minutes until browned. Drain excess grease and let cool.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooled sausage with shredded sharp cheddar cheese.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Cut in cold butter until coarse crumbs form.
  4. Make a well in the dry ingredients and pour in buttermilk. Gently stir until just combined.
  5. Fold the sausage and cheese mixture into the dough carefully without overworking it.
  6. Flour a surface, pat the dough into a rectangle about 1-inch thick, and cut out biscuits with a cutter.
  7. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter or heavy cream, place on parchment-lined baking sheet, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before serving warm.
