Dough Preparation
- Warm 1 cup of milk, stir in 2 tablespoons of sugar and 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix 3 cups of bread flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Add yeast mixture, 3 tablespoons of butter, and 1 beaten egg. Mix until shaggy.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 15-20 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Shape into a ball, place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in warm place for about 1 hour.
Filling and Shaping
- Combine filling ingredients and mix until crumbly.
- Once dough rises, punch it down and divide into 12-16 pieces. Shape each into an oval and fill with about 1 tablespoon of filling.
- Seal edges and place buns seam-side down on a lined tray. Cover and let rise for 30-40 minutes.
Baking
- Prepare topping and pipe onto each bun. Whisk egg and milk for egg wash and brush over buns.
- Bake at 350°F for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool on a wire rack before serving.
