  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour Foundation for your dough.
  • 2 teaspoons Chai Spices Cinnamon, Ginger, Allspice, Nutmeg, Cardamom, Cloves.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Enhances overall flavor.
  • 2 large Eggs Contributes to the dough’s structure.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Almond extract can be used as an alternative.
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Softened for mixing.
For the Chai Caramel Sauce
  • 1/2 cup Heavy Cream Adds richness to the caramel.
  • 2 bags Chai Tea Bags Infuses chai flavor into caramel sauce.
  • 1/2 cup Light Brown Sugar Dark brown sugar can be used for a bolder note.
  • 2 tablespoons Honey Natural sweetener for the caramel.
For the Frosting
  • 8 oz Cream Cheese Mascarpone works well as a substitute.
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar Sweetens and thickens the frosting.

Method
 

Dough Preparation
  1. Bloom the active dry yeast in warm whole milk mixed with granulated sugar for about 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine all-purpose flour, chai spices, and salt in a stand mixer.
  3. Once the yeast is ready, add whisked eggs, vanilla extract, softened unsalted butter, and the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until combined.
  4. Knead the dough with a dough hook for 7-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise
  1. Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, covering it with a clean kitchen towel.
  2. Let it rise in a warm area for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
Chai Caramel Sauce
  1. Heat heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer, then steep the chai tea bags for about 10 minutes.
  2. Remove the bags and mix the infused cream into softened butter, light brown sugar, spices, honey, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
  3. Pour this mixture into a greased baking dish.
Filling Preparation
  1. Blend softened butter with light brown sugar, chai spices, and salt until creamy.
Assembly
  1. Roll out the dough onto a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle.
  2. Spread the buttery filling evenly over the dough, then roll it up tightly.
  3. Slice the rolled dough into 12 equal pieces and arrange these rolls in the prepared baking dish.
  4. Pour a little extra cream between the rolls for added richness.
Second Rise
  1. Cover the assembled rolls with a kitchen towel and allow them to rise again in a warm place for about 1 hour.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the chai cinnamon rolls for 29-32 minutes.
Frosting
  1. Beat softened cream cheese and unsalted butter until light and fluffy.
  2. Gradually mix in powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and optional chai spices until fully combined.
Serving
  1. Let the chai cinnamon rolls cool in the dish for about 10 minutes before spreading the cream cheese frosting over them.
